What is an Amazon influencer & How does it work?

To put it simply, the Amazon Influencer Program is a program that allows you to earn money by promoting the products you love to your followers.

How it Works

Similar to the Amazon Affiliate program, the Amazon Influencer program allows you to earn a commission on items bought through your link. However, there is more to this program than that. When you get accepted to become an Amazon Influencer, Amazon gives you an entire storefront where you can showcase items that you endorse. This is different from the Amazon Associate program because influencers can just direct their followers straight to their entire storefront rather than just a single product linked to their posts. Also, the idea is that Amazon Influencers will use their social media accounts to promote items that are sold on Amazon.

How to Apply + Requirements

Applying to the Amazon Influencer Program is actually pretty simple provided that you have a YouTube, Instagram business account, Facebook business account, or TikTok Account. You essentially just put your information in and then Amazon will review it, and decide whether or not you qualify. They haven't released specific requirements to the public, but we do know that they look at the number of followers you have in addition to other metrics like engagement. I have seen people with 200 followers get accepted, and I have seen people with thousands of followers get accepted. That being said, they accept applications from "all types of influencers" and are looking for decent engagement metrics.

What is an Amazon Storefront?

When you get accepted into the Amazon Influencer Program, Amazon gives you a storefront where you can showcase your favorite Amazon items on the marketplace. You have the option to create idea lists, videos, live streams, and photos for your followers to see. Here is an example of what mine looks like:

How Much Do You Earn as an Amazon Influencer?

The amount that you earn as an Amazon Influencer is entirely up to you and how you prefer to use the platform, but you essentially have two options. You can start earning a commission when your followers make purchases using your affiliate links, or you can earn by getting approved for onsite commission. The amount you will earn will depend on the type of product sold, and you can see the commission rates here.

How to unlock onsite commission with Amazon

If you read nothing else from this article, read this section. For most people (especially micro-influencers with a smaller following), the way to earn money will not be by talking about products on your social media channels and getting your followers to purchase items using your links. Instead, you will earn through onsite commission. However, you have to unlock this feature, and not everyone gets accepted.

Onsite commission in a nutshell:

Amazon allows influencers to create videos on their storefront which (if onsite commission is unlocked) can then appear on product pages. If a shopper watches your video while shopping, and then purchases that product, then you will earn a commission from their purchase because you "influenced" the sale.

Unlocking onsite commission:

The most important thing I can share with you if you want to unlock onsite commission as an Amazon Influencer is that you do not have an unlimited amount of tries to do so. In fact, you only get 3 tries to unlock onsite commission, and that's it. Therefore, it is crucial to understand what kind of content amazon wants you to create. Here is what we know for sure: Amazon wants you to create 3 videos for them to review, and then they will take about 2 business days to approve or deny you for onsite commission. Additionally, I recommend doing a little bit of research on the product you would like to create a video for and see what kinds of videos have already been published so you can mimic those to increase your chance of being accepted.

Do You Have to Buy all the products you recommend?

This is also a great question I wanted to address. You do not have to buy anything additional from Amazon if you don't want to, but you definitely can. It is likely that you have already bought items by the time you become an Amazon Influencer and you can just use what you have at home to create your content.

Also, I would like to point out that being an Amazon Influencer is not the same thing as working as a product reviewer for Amazon. An influencer has a storefront, and this is separate from any reviews that might be created. For more information check out the video to the right:
